SUMMARY:46th Annual Student Art Show - Barn Gallery\, Ogunquit
DESCRIPTION:For 46 years\, Barn Gallery has opened its doors each May to the youngest artists in Southern Maine — and every year\, the room feels the same way. Proud. Bursting with creativity. Completely alive. \nThe 46th Annual Student Art Show begins with a reception on Friday\, May 8 (4–6PM)\, and continues Saturday and Sunday\, May 9 and 10\, from 1 to 4PM each day. K-12 students from the coastal communities of Southern Maine will exhibit work spanning landscapes\, portraits\, sculpture\, photography\, jewelry\, and more. \nThe 46th Student Art Show is — once again — generously sponsored by Dr. Gary Tirrell. \nA Tradition That Spans Generations\nFor many of these students\, this is the first time their work has hung in a real gallery — the same space where accomplished Maine artists have shown for generations. That experience stays with a young artist. The moment of seeing your name on the wall beside your work\, watching strangers stop and look\, is one that tends to travel with you. \nFamilies have been part of this show since the beginning. Grandparents who remember bringing their own children now arrive with grandchildren in tow. Some of this year’s students are showing in the same gallery where their parents once stood\, equally young\, equally hopeful. \nAdditional InformationWhy Come\nThe opening reception on Friday\, May 8 (4–6PM) is worth showing up for on its own. The artists are there. The work is fresh on the walls. You’ll see students who have never shown in a gallery before standing next to something they made — and that’s a particular kind of moment that the weekend hours\, for all their ease\, don’t quite replicate. \nSaturday and Sunday (May 9 & 10\, 1–4PM) are unhurried. Come back\, bring someone new\, take your time with the work. \nAt A Glance:\nWhat: 46th Annual Student Art Show\nWhere: Barn Gallery\, 3 Hartwig Lane\, Ogunquit\, Maine\nReception: Friday\, May 8 — 4 to 6PM\nWeekend Hours: Saturday & Sunday\, May 9 & 10 — 1 to 4PM\nFree and open to the public \nBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Ogunquit Art Association — \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n This past weekend\, Ogunquit Art Association member\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop by Jane Petschek | Ogunquit Art Association
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine on Tuesday\, August 19th (from 10 AM – 4 PM) for a Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Jane Petschek. \nSuggested Workshop donation: $75 \nAdditional InformationCome join professional artist Jane Petschek for her Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop. \nMonotypes are a kind of print that is “pulled” from a painting or drawing made on an inked metal or Plexiglas plate. Direct trace monotypes are a fun and easy way to create a unique print that has beautiful line quality similar to a soft-ground etching or charcoal drawing\, and without a printing press. Your source material can be a drawing\, sketch\, photograph or your imagination. This process is extremely flexible and works well for those who prefer to work abstractly\, spontaneously\, and for those who prefer to use a reference drawing or photo. \nBriefly\, a direct-trace monotype is made by first rolling a thin layer of printmaking ink onto a plexiglass surface. Then\, a sheet of mulberry printmaking paper is draped over the inked plexiglass. Your sketch or drawing can be layered on top of that as a guide\, if you wish\, and then you can “trace” your image with a pen or pencil. Or\, you can draw/make marks/work abstractly or spontaneously by drawing directly on the back of the printmaking sheet. Wherever pressure is applied\, ink will be transferred to the printmaking paper. Depending upon how pressure is applied\, lines may appear thick or thin and areas of tone can be\ndeveloped by rubbing the back of the paper. It is easy to check the progress of your print by gently lifting the paper to observe your marks. Depending on time\, we may be able to explore printing with colored inks\, and/or creating “ghost prints” – transferring the negative image left on the inked plexiglass onto a mulberry sheet by hand burnishing. It should be possible for each student to make several prints \nNOTE: One of the prints Jane Petschek will be showing in OAA Expressions #3 (part of the 2025 Late-Summer Art Exhibitions at Barn Gallery) is a direct-trace monotype\, so visitors to the gallery can see an example of this type of print. \nMaterials you will need to bring to the workshop:\nYour drawings\, sketches or simple photographs\, 8” x 10” or 6” x 8” works well for this workshop \nPencils\, pens\, 1-2 colored pencils\, other mark-making tools (chopstick\, e. g.) \nEraser\, a 12” or 24” ruler (to set borders for your print; can also be used as a leaning bridge) \nTracing paper\, (9” x 12” or similar works well for our format) \nEasy lift Masking or Painter’s tape \nLeaning Bridge – if you have one\, please bring it! It is helpful to rest your hand over the print in progress to avoid unwanted marks \n\nPrintmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop by Jane Petschek\n\nTuesday\, August 19 (From 10 AM – 4 PM)\n\nSuggested donation: $75\n\n\n\n\n\nPreregistration recommended. Call Barn Gallery: 207-646-8400. \nAbout The Workshop Instructor: Jane PetschekJane Petschek is a printmaker who uses intaglio processes to create landscape prints developed from plein air sketches\, photographs and memory. Her artwork is inspired by a strong sense of place and a love of the natural world. Through her art\, Jane strives to capture the soul or poetry of place to communicate with the viewer. Following a science career as a biology professor and researcher\, she discovered printmaking in 2010 through continuing education art classes at Cuyahoga Community College\, Cleveland Institute of Art\, and the Art Students’ League of Denver. \nBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Ogunquit Art Association — \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n This past weekend\, Ogunquit Art Association member\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

Most of the pieces are from my personal collection of cherished works. \nThe majority of art pieces in the exhibition are of fired clay and have been done over the last forty years that I have worked as a successful artist and art professor. Considering the concept of an ‘Introspective” ( Intentionally Not a retrospective\,) I looked back with wonder at the serendipitous occurrences that have had lasting affects on my life. I assembled a ‘memory/experience case’ for this exhibition that contains old photos\, small gifts from friends and mementos that reflect my appreciation of my life’s journey. Recently\, enamored by new digital and technical processes I have also been working in digital collages that combine two dimensional images and three dimensional forms. \nSee the entire Ogunquit Art Association interview with David Schneider: CLICK HERE! \nBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Ogunquit Art Association — \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n This past weekend\, Ogunquit Art Association member\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Vinegar Painting Workshop by Pamela Bearor-Amiralian | Ogunquit Art Association
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine on Tuesday\, August 12th for a “Vinegar Painting Workshop” (from 10AM-3PM) led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Pamela Bearor-Amiralian. \nSuggested Workshop donation: $75 PLUS *materials fee $20.00. \nAdditional InformationCome join professional artist Pamela Bearor-Amiralian as she presents a workshop focused on bringing Vinegar Painting into the 21st century. \nThe workshop will be an exploration of the historical folk-art finish (Vinegar painting) used in the colonies during the 1700’s/1800’s. This painting method was popular during this time partly because of the shortage of paint coming from Europe. It was used primarily on furniture and wood decorating items in the home (doors and trims)\, and storage boxes. The technique was a way to imitate woodgrain and well as fantasy designs. The lack of resin can be an advantage\, it allows the artist to play\, manipulate until satisfied.  Painted by a novice or serious painter\, each piece shows the pleasure and joy this method offers. \nWorkshop objective: \nIn this workshop\, students will begin by familiarizing themselves with the various materials used in folk-art painting\, including artists’ pigments\, learning how to handle\, purchase\, and store them properly. They’ll explore the techniques needed to achieve the distinctive folk-art finish and apply their skills by creating practice boards\, building a portfolio of different styles for future reference. By the end of the course\, they’ll be able to craft a finished piece on a Masonite board\, incorporating all they’ve learned. Throughout the process\, there will be opportunities to discuss their creative exploration and problem-solving. Additionally\, they’ll master the use of shellac — learning that while most materials can be cleaned with water\, shellac requires ammonia\, which is reused in a dedicated container before a final water rinse. This hands-on experience will equip them with both the knowledge and confidence to continue their artistic journey. \nAll skill levels are welcome. \n\nVinegar Painting Workshop (w/ Pamela Bearor-Amiralian)\n\nTuesday\, August 12th (from 10AM – 3PM)\nSuggested donation: $75 PLUS *material fee $20\n\n\n\nPreregistration recommended. Call Barn Gallery: 207-646-8400. \nAbout The Workshop Instructor: Pamela Bearor-AmiralianCome join professional artist + educator Pamela Bearor-Amiralian as she presents a Vinegar Painting workshop at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine. \nPam’s career has spanned a variety of mediums\, designs\, and creative concepts. She has created contemporary and eclectic interior designs ranging from elegant condominiums at The Intercontinental Residences Boston to community-focused work for the Essex Art Center and Our House Lawrence. \nPam received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art with post-graduate work at RISD\, New Hampshire Institute of Art\, and Kendall Center for the Arts. She works out of her studio in North Andover\, Massachusetts. \nArtist’s Statement \nMy background in design helps to inform all of my work. The principles of design (balance\, unity\, harmony\, contrast\, emphasis\, scale\, and rhythm) and elements of design (point\, line\, plane\, texture\, and color) combine together to give my art substance. \nMy canvases and panels blend contemporary design with vinegar paint\, a late 18th century\, American technique of combining artists’ pigments and apple cider vinegar with dish soap or sugar. I discovered this form of painting when studying decorative finishes\, and it took hold of my imagination. \nVinegar paint provides a phenomenal degree of detail and precision. Intricate\, sharp lines and patterns pop from the pigment\, creating the optical illusion of depth. These patterns maintain a curious originality that is deepened by texture and the illusions of movement through out my art. These thoughtful juxtapositions work symbiotically to create a peaceful complexity. I pull from the macro view of the cosmos to the microbiology imagery in nature. \nMy work almost always starts from the smallest element to the largest. I’m passionate about the way this process allows the work to unfold as a meditation; shapes first emerge from a colored pencil sketch then continue to evolve through this exploratory paint process. As the vinegar dries the only thing left on the panels is the pigment. There is no suspension matter to interfere with the pigment. There is nothing between the viewer\, the textures and the colors. The final works\, with their intricate detail\, organic or geometric shapes\, and rich tones\, recall life’s impressions\, experiences\, and relationships. My most recent panels have been a conscious connectedness to the spiritual process of meditation and the creation of art. \nVISIT: pbearor-amiralian.comBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Ogunquit Art Association — \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n This past weekend\, Ogunquit Art Association member\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Marginal Way Committee Centennial Talk: “A World on the Wing\,” Scott Weidensaul
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, June 26\, the Marginal Way’s Centennial Talk series concludes with “A World on the Wing\,” a talk by acclaimed ornithologist and Pulitzer Prize finalist Scott Weidensaul at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine. His 7 p.m. presentation will describe the science and wonder of global bird migration – “the navigational and physiological feats that enable birds to cross immense oceans\, fly above the highest mountains\, or remain in unbroken flight for months at a stretch.” \nBarn Gallery is located at 3 Hartwig Lane in Ogunquit\, Maine — at the corner of Shore Road & Bourne Lane. \nAdditional Information About the Marginal Way’s Centennial Talk at Barn GalleryWeidensaul\, who has tracked birds since his youth\, now contributes to research using miniature tracking devices and global datasets such as Cornell’s eBird. His current work with the Motus Wildlife Tracking System reveals real-time migratory patterns—even for hummingbirds and dragonflies. \nBirds are what connected Weidensaul to Marginal Way. His first visits to Ogunquit were with “birding friends who knew it well\, watching harlequin ducks and loons on blustery late-winter days.” \nWhat advice does Weidensaul have for those entrusted to care for the Marginal Way? \n“Don’t let it become too tidy or manicured\,” he said. “If you do it will lose some of its charm but also its value as a habitat for all the small birds that use the thickets and nooks. Nature likes a bit of a mess.” \nSee barngallery.org for our full schedule of artist workshops\, demonstrations\, and additional gallery programs. \nAt A Glance:\nMarginal Way Committee Centennial Talk: “A World on the Wing\,” Scott Weidensaul\nDate/Time: Thursday\, June 26th\, 7 PM\nLocation: Barn Gallery\, 3 Hartwig Lane\, Ogunquit\, Maine (at the corner of Shore Road and Bourne Lane) \nBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n ATTENTION ARTISTS: The Ogunquit Art Association — \n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n This past weekend\, Ogunquit Art Association member\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Ogunquit Performing Arts. Boston Chamber Music String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating the Marginal Way Centennial with the music of Haydn\, Mozart\, Puccini and Mendelssohn! \nIn recent years\, OPA’s Chamber Music Festival has featured an on-going partnership with Boston Chamber Music\, which every year puts together a special ensemble for the Ogunquit concerts\, unique to OPA. \nThe players this year include Omar Chen Guey\, violin\, Peter Sulski\, violin\, Noriko Futagami\, viola\, and David Russell\, cello – three of whom have played for OPA before\, with Ms. Futagami making her Ogunquit debut. \nBarn Gallery is located at 3 Hartwig Lane in Ogunquit\, Maine — at the corner of Shore Road & Bourne Lane. \nAdditional Information About: Ogunquit Performing Arts. Boston Chamber Music String QuartetBoston Chamber Music’s program this year will feature Haydn’s String Quartet No. 63 in B♭major\, Op. 76\, No. 4\, (the Sunrise Quartet)\, a piece which evokes the rising of the sun and the stirring awakening of nature. It was selected by Boston Chamber Music as a fitting tribute to the Marginal Way Centennial\, which this year marks 100 years since the deed of gift of the scenic cliff walk to the town of Ogunquit by Josiah Chase. \nThe Haydn quartet is nicknamed “Sunrise” due to the rising theme over sustained chords that begins the quartet\, and is perhaps the most magical in all Haydn. Featuring rising themes throughout\, it combines earthiness with sophisticated development\, blending Hungarian or Balkan folk music with the composer’s natural elegance. \nBCM’s program will also include Mozart’s Quartet in Eb Major\, K. 171 (the Viennese). Written in 1773\, the quartet represents a considerable advance from Mozart’s previous works and reflects the influence of Haydn. \nCrisantemi (Chrysanthemums)\, a haunting lovely elegy written by Giacomo Puccini in 1890 in tribute to the late Amadeo I of Spain. Puccini later incorporated the beautiful\, tragic melodies of this short piece into his first successful opera\, Manon Lescaut. \nMendelssohn’s Quartet in Eb Major\, Op. 12 concludes the program. This masterfully composed quartet of 1829\, while still echoing the influence of Beethoven\, features stylistic and lyrical departures from that influence as Mendelssohn continued to develop as a composer. \nJoin us for this final chamber music concert of the season\, as these wonderful artists bring this superlative program to Ogunquit audiences! \nPRICE: $20 in advance\, $25 at the door (cash or checks only). Wine Reception to meet the artists follows the concert. I can readily explain the technique (the process of etching which can be found at my website)\, alas\, for me to explain the meaning of my work is like asking an author to draw a picture describing his novel … like asking a daisy to explain horticulture. With my line work\, I take spaghetti for a walk. That is when I am in my zone.
