SUMMARY:46th Annual Student Art Show - Barn Gallery\, Ogunquit
DESCRIPTION:For 46 years\, Barn Gallery has opened its doors each May to the youngest artists in Southern Maine — and every year\, the room feels the same way. Proud. Bursting with creativity. Completely alive. \nThe 46th Annual Student Art Show begins with a reception on Friday\, May 8 (4–6PM)\, and continues Saturday and Sunday\, May 9 and 10\, from 1 to 4PM each day. K-12 students from the coastal communities of Southern Maine will exhibit work spanning landscapes\, portraits\, sculpture\, photography\, jewelry\, and more. \nThe 46th Student Art Show is — once again — generously sponsored by Dr. Gary Tirrell. \nA Tradition That Spans Generations\nFor many of these students\, this is the first time their work has hung in a real gallery — the same space where accomplished Maine artists have shown for generations. That experience stays with a young artist. The moment of seeing your name on the wall beside your work\, watching strangers stop and look\, is one that tends to travel with you. \nFamilies have been part of this show since the beginning. Grandparents who remember bringing their own children now arrive with grandchildren in tow. Some of this year’s students are showing in the same gallery where their parents once stood\, equally young\, equally hopeful. \nAdditional InformationWhy Come\nThe opening reception on Friday\, May 8 (4–6PM) is worth showing up for on its own. The artists are there. The work is fresh on the walls. You’ll see students who have never shown in a gallery before standing next to something they made — and that’s a particular kind of moment that the weekend hours\, for all their ease\, don’t quite replicate. \nSaturday and Sunday (May 9 & 10\, 1–4PM) are unhurried. Come back\, bring someone new\, take your time with the work. \nAt A Glance:\nWhat: 46th Annual Student Art Show\nWhere: Barn Gallery\, 3 Hartwig Lane\, Ogunquit\, Maine\nReception: Friday\, May 8 — 4 to 6PM\nWeekend Hours: Saturday & Sunday\, May 9 & 10 — 1 to 4PM\nFree and open to the public \nBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n Visit Barn Gallery in #Ogunquit\, #Maine 7 Days a W\n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n Visit Barn Gallery in #Ogunquit\, #Maine 7 Days a W\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

Composed in 1823\, Semiramide opens with a 12-minute orchestral showcase of suspense\, melodic richness\, and Rossini’s signature crescendo techniques. Although it contains material from the opera\, this bright Overture hardly suggests the blood and gore of the story that follows! \nMozart: Chamber version of Concerto in A\, K. 488 (arranged for string quintet and piano) \nOne of Mozart’s finest and most lyrical concertos\, this 1786 work is admired for its lyricism\, emotional range\, and formal perfection. It is a staple of the classical piano repertoire\, frequently performed by major pianists and orchestras worldwide. Critics often single out the second movement as a sublime exemplar of Mozart’s genius for expressing deep feeling with utmost simplicity and grace. \nBrahms: String Sextet in Bb\, No. 1\, Op. 18 \nThe Sextet is notable for its symphonic sound\, with Brahms utilizing the two cellos and two violas to create rich\, dark timbres. Written in 1860\, it is a masterpiece of chamber music\, blending youthful romantic lyricism with mature classical structure\, and is renowned for its warm\, orchestral textures\, tender melodies\, and the expansive emotional arc across its four movements. \nThe Players:\nRandall Hodgkinson\, piano\nOmar Chen Guey\, violin\nAlice Hallstrom\, violin\nMark Berger\, viola\nPeter Sulski\, viola\nNicholas Johnson\, cello\nDavid Russell\, cello\nNathan Varga\, bass \nLEARN MORE + PURCHASE TICKETS

Listeners will be delighted to hear the many connections between these two worlds. One reason the jazz fits within a classical piano recital is that Fred and friends have chosen their favorite historic recordings by trios led by such greats as Oscar Peterson\, Ahmad Jamal\, and Bill Evans\, and have painstakingly transcribed every note. In a Classical-Jazz concert\, they bring these scores to life as a chamber music ensemble would with Bach or Beethoven\, infusing the music with their own vitality and interpretations. The result is a swinging celebration of the best in jazz\, thrilling both classical music lovers and jazz enthusiasts. \nAlso at the concert: Fred’s patented MoyerCam\, which allows virtually everyone in the audience to see the keyboard and hands. \nIncluded in The Program: \n\nSchubert Impromptu in E flat Major\, Op. 90\, no. 2\nGrieg Piano Concerto in A Minor\, Op. 16\nThe Music of Oscar Peterson\, Ahmad Jamal\, and Bill Evans\n\n__________________________________________________ \nFrederick Moyer: “Moyer breezed through this splendidly varied and arduously demanding recital with technical and stylistic colors flying.” Los Angeles Times \nPianist Frederick Moyer has established a vital musical career that has taken him to forty-four countries and to such distant venues as Suntory Hall in Tokyo\, Sydney Opera House\, Windsor Castle\, Carnegie Recital Hall\, Tanglewood\, and the Kennedy Center. SUMMARY:Vinegar Painting Workshop with Pamela Bearor-Amiralian | Ogunquit Art Association
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine on Tuesday\, August 11th\, 2026 for a “Vinegar Painting Workshop” (from 10AM-3PM) led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Pamela Bearor-Amiralian. \nSuggested Workshop donation: $75 PLUS *materials fee $20.00. \nAdditional InformationCome join professional artist Pamela Bearor-Amiralian as she presents a workshop focused on bringing Vinegar Painting into the 21st century. \nThe workshop will be an exploration of the historical folk-art finish (Vinegar painting) used in the colonies during the 1700’s/1800’s. This painting method was popular during this time partly because of the shortage of paint coming from Europe. It was used primarily on furniture and wood decorating items in the home (doors and trims)\, and storage boxes. The technique was a way to imitate woodgrain and well as fantasy designs. The lack of resin can be an advantage\, it allows the artist to play\, manipulate until satisfied.  Painted by a novice or serious painter\, each piece shows the pleasure and joy this method offers. \nWorkshop objective: \nIn this workshop\, students will begin by familiarizing themselves with the various materials used in folk-art painting\, including artists’ pigments\, learning how to handle\, purchase\, and store them properly. They’ll explore the techniques needed to achieve the distinctive folk-art finish and apply their skills by creating practice boards\, building a portfolio of different styles for future reference. By the end of the course\, they’ll be able to craft a finished piece on a Masonite board\, incorporating all they’ve learned. Throughout the process\, there will be opportunities to discuss their creative exploration and problem-solving. Additionally\, they’ll master the use of shellac — learning that while most materials can be cleaned with water\, shellac requires ammonia\, which is reused in a dedicated container before a final water rinse. This hands-on experience will equip them with both the knowledge and confidence to continue their artistic journey. \nAll skill levels are welcome. \n\nVinegar Painting Workshop (w/ Pamela Bearor-Amiralian)\n\nTuesday\, August 11th (from 10AM – 3PM)\nSuggested donation: $75 PLUS *material fee $20\n\n\n\nPre-registration recommended. Call Barn Gallery: 207-646-8400. \nAbout The Workshop Instructor: Pamela Bearor-AmiralianCome join professional artist + educator Pamela Bearor-Amiralian as she presents a Vinegar Painting workshop at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine. \nPam’s career has spanned a variety of mediums\, designs\, and creative concepts. She has created contemporary and eclectic interior designs ranging from elegant condominiums at The Intercontinental Residences Boston to community-focused work for the Essex Art Center and Our House Lawrence. \nPam received her BFA from Massachusetts College of Art with post-graduate work at RISD\, New Hampshire Institute of Art\, and Kendall Center for the Arts. She works out of her studio in North Andover\, Massachusetts. \nArtist’s Statement \nMy background in design helps to inform all of my work. The principles of design (balance\, unity\, harmony\, contrast\, emphasis\, scale\, and rhythm) and elements of design (point\, line\, plane\, texture\, and color) combine together to give my art substance. \nMy canvases and panels blend contemporary design with vinegar paint\, a late 18th century\, American technique of combining artists’ pigments and apple cider vinegar with dish soap or sugar. I discovered this form of painting when studying decorative finishes\, and it took hold of my imagination. \nVinegar paint provides a phenomenal degree of detail and precision. Intricate\, sharp lines and patterns pop from the pigment\, creating the optical illusion of depth. These patterns maintain a curious originality that is deepened by texture and the illusions of movement through out my art. These thoughtful juxtapositions work symbiotically to create a peaceful complexity. I pull from the macro view of the cosmos to the microbiology imagery in nature. \nMy work almost always starts from the smallest element to the largest. I’m passionate about the way this process allows the work to unfold as a meditation; shapes first emerge from a colored pencil sketch then continue to evolve through this exploratory paint process. As the vinegar dries the only thing left on the panels is the pigment. There is no suspension matter to interfere with the pigment. There is nothing between the viewer\, the textures and the colors. The final works\, with their intricate detail\, organic or geometric shapes\, and rich tones\, recall life’s impressions\, experiences\, and relationships. My most recent panels have been a conscious connectedness to the spiritual process of meditation and the creation of art. \nVISIT: pbearor-amiralian.comBarn Gallery 2026: Exhibitions\, Gallery Talks\, Workshops\, Demos\, Auction\, More…Learn more about the Barn Gallery 2026 Schedule: barngallery.org/2026-season \nLEARN MOREConnect With #BarnGallery on Instagram\n\n	\n	\n \n	\n \n Visit Barn Gallery in #Ogunquit\, #Maine 7 Days a W\n \n \n	\n\n	\n \n Visit Barn Gallery in #Ogunquit\, #Maine 7 Days a W\n \n \n	\n	\n\n	\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n Follow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop with Jane Petschek | Ogunquit Art Association
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine on Tuesday\, August 18th\, 2026 (from 10 AM – 3 PM) for a Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Jane Petschek. \nSuggested Workshop donation: $75 \nAdditional InformationCome join professional artist Jane Petschek for her Printmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop. \nMonotypes are a kind of print that is “pulled” from a painting or drawing made on an inked metal or Plexiglas plate. Direct trace monotypes are a fun and easy way to create a unique print that has beautiful line quality similar to a soft-ground etching or charcoal drawing\, and without a printing press. Your source material can be a drawing\, sketch\, photograph or your imagination. This process is extremely flexible and works well for those who prefer to work abstractly\, spontaneously\, and for those who prefer to use a reference drawing or photo. \nBriefly\, a direct-trace monotype is made by first rolling a thin layer of printmaking ink onto a plexiglass surface. Then\, a sheet of mulberry printmaking paper is draped over the inked plexiglass. Your sketch or drawing can be layered on top of that as a guide\, if you wish\, and then you can “trace” your image with a pen or pencil. Or\, you can draw/make marks/work abstractly or spontaneously by drawing directly on the back of the printmaking sheet. Wherever pressure is applied\, ink will be transferred to the printmaking paper. Depending upon how pressure is applied\, lines may appear thick or thin and areas of tone can be\ndeveloped by rubbing the back of the paper. It is easy to check the progress of your print by gently lifting the paper to observe your marks. Depending on time\, we may be able to explore printing with colored inks\, and/or creating “ghost prints” – transferring the negative image left on the inked plexiglass onto a mulberry sheet by hand burnishing. It should be possible for each student to make several prints \nMaterials you will need to bring to the workshop:\nYour drawings\, sketches or simple photographs\, 8” x 10” or 6” x 8” works well for this workshop \nPencils\, pens\, 1-2 colored pencils\, other mark-making tools (chopstick\, e. g.) \nEraser\, a 12” or 24” ruler (to set borders for your print; can also be used as a leaning bridge) \nTracing paper\, (9” x 12” or similar works well for our format) \nEasy lift Masking or Painter’s tape \nLeaning Bridge – if you have one\, please bring it! It is helpful to rest your hand over the print in progress to avoid unwanted marks \n\nPrintmaking Without a Press: Direct Trace Monotypes Workshop by Jane Petschek\n\nTuesday\, August 18 (From 10 AM – 3 PM)\n\nSuggested donation: $75\n\n\n\n\n\nPre-registration recommended.
