I am intrigued by the movement and interaction of different media – watching it and going with the flow. My work may begin with free form abstraction and morph into more realistic aspects\, or start from a point of reality and then travel in a more intuitive direction. As an artist and teacher I enjoy learning from every experience. It all provides a history of information on which to draw. All the gathered understanding contributes\, with a nod to Charles Woodbury\, to an artist’s Personal Equation.” \n   \nAbout Michael Palmer:\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n MICHAEL PALMER – Moonlight on Landscape 24” x 24”\n \n \n \n\nMichael considers drawing as important or more so\, than the painting. SUMMARY:Gala Reception for Opening Exhibitions
DESCRIPTION:The Ogunquit Art Association (OAA) – Maine’s Original Artists’ Group | est. 1928 – is celebrating their 91st Anniversary in 2019 with a variety of exhibitions\, gallery talks\, demonstrations\, workshops\, and more at their Barn Gallery headquarters (located at the corner of Shore Road and Bourne Lane). \nThis exciting new season of art exhibitions and programs by artists of the Ogunquit Art Association begins Wednesday\, May 22nd (with an Opening Reception on Saturday\, May 25th from 5-7:30 PM). \nBarn Gallery is located at the Corner of Shore Road & Bourne Lane in Ogunquit\, Maine. \n  \nAt A Glance:\nOpening Exhibitions: May 22 – June 22\nDrawing\nOAA Expressions\nShowcases: \n\nTanya Fletcher – Painting\nJohn Snyder – Painting\n\nInvited New England Sculptors\nGala Reception: Saturday\, May 25\, 5 – 7:30PM \n  \nAdditional Information\nOpening Exhibitions include ‘OAA Expressions’ — PLUS a themed exhibition: ‘DRAWING’. \nInvited New England Sculptors exhibit in the outdoor Sculpture Court. \nPainters Tanya Fletcher and John Snyder showcase their work in the North Gallery. \n  \nAbout Tanya Fletcher:\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Tanya Fletcher\, “Hands”\n \n \n \n \n \n Tanya Fletcher\, “Breach”\n \n \n \n \n \n Tanya Fletcher\, “Feer”\n \n \n\nTanya Fletcher’s current body of work consists of life sized figures rendered in oil with metal leaf backgrounds on Baltic birch. These multiple panel pieces are reductively painted. A monochromatic\, even layer of oil color is applied and then selectively removed with a cloth. This results in a brush-free photographic-like realism. Also\, the revealed grain of the wood suggests skin and/or contours of the body endowing the forms with a three-dimensional sculptural look. The illusion of depth & space is furthered by silhouetting the figures against a bright metal leaf background…a reverse chiaroscuro. The artist’s theatrical use of size & composition imbues these paintings with a taut level of emotional intensity. Fletcher’s acutely observed realism & objective approach to her figures also communicates a blunt psychological honesty & drama. This visceral aesthetic\, however\, still maintains an ambiguity. The nude is isolated to a neutral ground. Curves\, creases & bulk speak for themselves without distraction. Also\, dividing the pieces into multi-panels enhances the objectivity of the figure. \nLearn More: fletcherfigures.com \n  \nAbout John Snyder\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n J Snyder\, “Transient Sunburst”\n \n \n \n\nArt is about having an experience of the senses and emotions. Maine artist\, John Snyder\, continuously strives to open up those experiences in his work. Born in 1965 and having lived and grown in different parts of the United States\, John settled on an art career in his mid-twenties. Though he took art classes at the College of Visual Arts in Saint Paul\, Minnesota and Heartwood College of Art in Kennebunk\, Maine\, he is largely self taught. The book “The Natural Way to Draw”\, by Kimon Nicolaides\, played a major role in the development of John Snyder’s approach to drawing. The energy of his work reflects years of practice and a sincere dedication to the imagination. \nLearn More: johnsnyderart.com \n  \nDOWNLOAD: Barn Gallery Quick Calendar Of Events\n
