That’s where I want to be with my art. I want to make something no one\, not even me\, has seen before. \nWhen I begin a painting I usually have very little idea where I’ll be going with it. I find that if I attempt to plan a painting or even sketch an idea beforehand I get bored and it never appears like the plan anyway. Davison and Deloris White. \nThis is a FREE event and open to the public. \nAdditional InformationArtists Nancy R. Davison and Deloris White have written\, compiled and published books of their own poetry and pictures. Each approached the making of a book as an adventure – a new way to present their work. \nDavison’s Summer Cottage: Art and Poetry combines her relief prints of York Beach Maine in the 1980s and ‘90s with recent poems to give an evocative view of summer life in Maine. \nWhite’s Listen to the Trees is a collection of haiku and monotypes created in an attempt to understand the emotions and turmoil of navigating loss and grief. \nThe artists will read excerpts from their books and describe the process of putting a book together. \n\nBarn Gallery Talk (w/ Nancy Davison and Deloris White)\n\nThursday\, August 15th (at 6 PM)\n\n\n\nAbout The Artist: Nancy R. DavisonNancy R. Davison took printmaking from Leonard Baskin at Smith College and set up her own printmaking studio after graduation. She is best known for black and white linoleum cuts and aquatint etchings of architectural landscapes\, especially of the southern Maine seacoast. She began making political prints during the Gulf War. A recent exhibition focused on the interplay between her poetry\, her prints and her paintings – some political\, some personal.  \nA life-long volunteer in the arts\, Davison is a founder of the Ogunquit Arts Collaborative/Barn Gallery and a member of the Ogunquit Arts Association Association\, and the Boston Printmakers. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Barn Gallery in Ogunquit\, Maine on Tuesday\, August 20th\, 2024 for a “Mixed Media Workshop – Bands of Color in Watercolor and Collage” (at 6pm) led by Ogunquit Art Association artist-member Ethel Hills. \nSuggested Workshop donation: $60.00 – *materials list\n \nAdditional InformationCome join accomplished artist + educator Ethel Hills as she presents a workshop focused on “Bands of Color in Watercolor and Collage”. \nEnjoy an art play day and learn a new technique. \nWe’ll be making small colorful abstract landscapes that celebrate your spirit. \nOne of the fun pieces of this experience is using bits and pieces of old paintings to help create new paintings. \nAlthough watercolor will be our primary painting medium\, we’ll be using some less traditional papers along with straight watercolor paper. \nAll skill levels are welcome. \n\nWorkshop: Bands of Color in Watercolor and Collage (w/ Ethel Hills)\n\nTuesday\, August 20 (10am – 3pm)\nSuggested donation: $60\n\n\n\nPreregistration recommended. While completing her B.A. at the University of New Hampshire\, she fell in love with the marshes and beaches of the seacoast region and eventually settled in Hampton. \nWhile working traditional clerical jobs\, she explored her creativity through needlework\, photography and rug hooking. Interest in developing her own rug designs brought her to a drawing class and the beginning of a love of drawing and painting. To improve her skills\, she actively pursued her study of art\, including traditional art courses at the University of New Hampshire and the New Hampshire Institute of Art. \nHills has been painting seriously for more than thirty years and is currently pursuing her art career from her studio at Lane House Arts Center in downtown Hampton. She is an active member of the Ogunquit Art Association\, New Hampshire Art Association\, the Abstract Artists Group of New England\, Women’s Caucus for Art\, and Newburyport Art Association. That’s where I want to be with my art. I want to make something no one\, not even me\, has seen before. \nWhen I begin a painting I usually have very little idea where I’ll be going with it. I find that if I attempt to plan a painting or even sketch an idea beforehand I get bored and it never appears like the plan anyway.
