The Ogunquit Art Association (OAA) was originally founded in 1928 by Charles H. Woodbury and other area artists. The OAA’s original mission statement offers the public ‘the opportunity for aesthetic experience and the acquisition of works of art.’ It offers artists life-long memberships and the opportunity ‘to display that which is, in his or her own judgment, his or her finest work, free from the usual vagaries of popular opinion and fashions of taste. This brings into view a true representation of art from the artists’ point of view.’
For 2023, which represents the 95th year of active existence for the OAA, all visitors to Barn Gallery in Ogunquit will be able to witness the OAA mission in full and glorious action. Gallery spaces covered with compelling and evocative OAA artwork. Festive opening exhibitions buzzing with the colorful conversation and keen cultural appreciation of artists, collectors, and art lovers of all stripes. Engrossing (and well-attended) gallery talks by accomplished OAA artists. Inspiring art demos and educational workshops by OAA artists.
PLUS (and we’re guessing you’re going to LOVE this news): For the first time since before the global pandemic, we’re even bringing back one of the most enduring and cherished of our traditional OAA events! The biggest annual Art Auction in Ogunquit and one of the MAJOR cultural events on the summer arts calendar in Maine: The 69th OAA Art Auction (Preview: August 2,3,4,5; Auction: August 5 (doors open 6pm; auction begins at 7pm)!
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ve likely noticed that our website and social media presence has grown exponentially over the past few years; and we’re going to keep the momentum going in 2023. Expect to see virtual versions of our 2023 Barn Gallery exhibitions, artist interviews, spotlights on OAA artwork, and more! We know there is absolutely no substitute for seeing art in person; but we love the opportunity that the internet gives us to spread the word about our events, share an additional depth of information about our organization and its artists, plus give those who aren’t able to attend our in-real-life events ample opportunity to see + share (plus even call us to purchase) the work of OAA artists!
OAA Membership Jury Process Changes: The OAA Membership Jury will not be open in 2023. The board has voted to move to “biennial” jurying on the even years. Artists aspiring to gain membership in the OAA should use this year to strengthen their portfolio of work for submission to the 2024 OAA Membership Jury.
