Frederick Moyer - Ogunquit Performing Arts - Barn Gallery

Performing the opening concert at the Barn Gallery in Ogunquit, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 7th, internationally acclaimed pianist, Frederick Moyer performs a show-stopping program of a variety of well-known classical composers, and featuring a group of jazz favorites.

His program will include works by Mozart, Schumann, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, followed by a wide-ranging selection of his (and our) jazz standards.

Moyer has redefined traditional piano recitals through his use of technology, often with his own original software. His MoyerCam provides the audience a view from almost every seat in the house of his hands and keyboard.

His performances exhibit an affinity for a wide variety of styles in both classical music and jazz, and his relaxed and witty commentary from the stage engages audiences in the heart of the musical experience. He returns to OPA audiences as a favorite performer, always inspiring standing ovations and encores.

Moyer has entertained audiences in more than 44 countries- and in such international venues as the Sydney Opera House, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, Windsor Castle, with orchestras in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, and Iceland- and across every region in the U.S. ranging from Boston, NYC, Baltimore and Washington D.C. to St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Milwaukee to Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles.

Critical praise from the New York Times refers to his work as “First class… His playing is clean, unmannered, and full of ideas and intelligence.

Liana Paniyeva: Friday, October 13, at 7:30 pm

Liana Paniyeva - Ogunquit Performing Arts - Barn Gallery

On Friday, October 13, at 7:30 pm, Ukranian and international classical pianist Liana Paniyeva makes her Ogunquit debut performing a program which illustrates what her concert reviewers describe as a “sensitive player… holding your attention with tender regard for the music, a captivating inwardness and sense of free spontaneity.

Her program will include works by Brahms, Chopin, Schumann, Weinberg and Lysenko.

Ms. Paniyeva began winning prizes as a young prodigy in Ukraine in 2002, and continued to win international performance prizes in prestigious competitions from the American Fine Arts Festival and the Metropolitan International Competition in NYC, to the George Gershwin International Competition, and among others, prestigious competitions in Scotland and Spain.

In 2022 she was granted the Extraordinary Abilities in the Arts US residence, awarded only to artists who have attained the highest level in their field.

Her international venues include but are not limited to piano festivals in Norway, Hungary, Austria, Canada, England, Syria, Italy, South Africa, Spain and Israel. Her domestic performances include multiple performances at Carnegie Hall and concert
series in Chicago.

Her commitment to teaching and mentoring promising young piano students is exemplified by her founding of the first online Young Stars International Piano Competition for young pianists ages 6-14 yo. During the pandemic, children from all over the world submitted their recordings: Germany, Malaysia, Australia, Poland, Canada, Macedonia, Thailand, US, UK, Taiwan, Italy, India, Lithuania, and Azebiajan.

Student Piano Recital - Ogunquit Performing Arts - Barn Gallery

Concluding the 16th Annual Elizabeth Dunaway Burnham Piano Festival is the Student Piano Recital, featuring some of Southern Maine’s finest young pianists, on Sunday, October 15 at 3 p.m.

The festival, and especially this recital, honors the memory of Elizabeth Dunaway Burnham (“Betty”), fittingly concluding the festival with this event inspired by most of her own life as a piano student and teacher. As a student, she first received a music degree from Smith College and continued her studies with renowned concert pianists and faculty members from Dunbarton College in Washington, D.C. and Julliard School of Music, in New York City.

Betty Burnham had long dreamed that Ogunquit could support such a program as Ogunquit Performing Arts to add to its attractiveness as a welcoming place for artists, sculptors and summer theatre. Her dream was realized in November 1978, when the Committee for the Performing Arts was formed and began its work, with Betty elected as chairperson.

In this popular annual event, students have a unique opportunity to perform on a concert grand piano before a live public audience of piano enthusiasts as well as family and friends.
