The Ogunquit Art Association (OAA), founded in 1928 by Charles H. Woodbury and other area artists, brings together professional artists to exhibit their finest work. It continues today as juried OAA member-artists and friends meet at Barn Gallery to share exhibitions, programs about art and the creative process, and opportunities to create art.
As part of our popular summer schedule, accomplished artist + educator (plus Ogunquit Art Association artist-member) Ethel Hills taught a “Bands of Color in Watercolor and Collage” workshop at Barn Gallery Thursday, August 25th, 2022.
Hills has been painting seriously for more than thirty years and is currently pursuing her art career from her studio at Lane House Arts Center in downtown Hampton. She is an active member of the Ogunquit Art Association, New Hampshire Art Association, the Abstract Artists Group of New England, Women’s Caucus for Art, and Newburyport Art Association. Her work has been included in the Biennial at New Hampshire Institute of Art, the Regional Juried Show at Newburyport Art Association, New Hampshire Art Association’s Currier Exhibition and Barn Gallery’s Regional Juried show in Ogunquit, ME.
Students at the workshop enjoyed this loose and fun art play day at Barn Gallery and appreciated the opportunity to learn a new technique.
Participants made small + colorful abstract landscapes that celebrated their spirit. One of the fun pieces of this experience was using bits and pieces of old paintings to help create new paintings. Watercolor was te primary painting medium used in this workshop, but participants also utilized some less traditional papers along with straight watercolor paper.
Hills demonstrated the layering of painted papers, ways to apply the glue medium, PLUS ideas and possibilities for developing colorful compositions in this exceedingly fun workshop.
If you weren’t able to make it to any of our art workshops at Barn Gallery this year, be certain to use the form below to subscribe to future Barn Gallery email newsletters, and we will contact you as new opportunities arise!
