Join us at Barn Gallery on Thursday, August 18th (at 6 PM) for a Barn Gallery Talk by two of our Showcase Artists: Christopher Gowell (Sculptor/Painter) and Kimberly Meuse (Painter).
Meet the artists, see their work, learn about their processes, and ask questions.
These insightful and inspiring Gallery Talks always provide further insight into our exhibitions and give attendees the chance to hear stories + learn tips and tricks from present day juried artist-members of the Ogunquit Art Association, Maine’s Original Artists’ Group (est. 1928).
This is a FREE event and it is open to the public.
About Christopher Gowell – Sculptor/Painter
Christopher Gowell is a sculptor, painter, and director of Sanctuary Arts, an artists’ residential and studio community with a “skill-based” art school and bronze casting teaching foundry. There she lives, and has her studio in an active arts environment.
“My art education began as a child at Munson Williams Proctor Institute, a museum school in Utica, New York. I attended Syracuse University for two years, took sculpture classes at the Corcoran School of Art and George Washington University, and completed my undergraduate degree (Summa Cum Laude) at the University of New Hampshire in 1974. I earned my Master of Fine Arts from Boston University in 1977, working as a graduate assistant teaching basic and intermediate figure sculpture. My commissions include a tidal pool relief for the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH, a bronze fountain of Alexander the Great with two companions, a six foot bronze of an 1870’s millworker and her son for Nashua New Hampshire’s waterfront, and an eight foot by seven foot fire fighter’s memorial for the Manchester NH fire department. I also design and carve traditional slate tombstones, most of them for Martha’s Vineyard.“

About Kimberly Meuse – Painter
Kimberly is self-taught in her style of watercolor painting, after an introductory course in college where she studied Graphic Design opened the door to the wonders and challenges of the medium. The graphic design world focuses on simplifying messages, while Kimberly’s eye consistently sought the finer points and sumptuous detail. After a decade of working in corporate design, she followed her heart to fine art and watercolor.
Taking watercolor painting from a generally loose methodology to create works that defy the confines of representational painting, she has surmounted the challenges inherent in water-based media to create exquisitely deep, rich paintings that have become a career-long passion.
“A random collection of colorful glassware can be an interesting arrangement, but it becomes visually stunning with a glint of sunlight. That transformation of ordinary into glorious is as fleeting as the stray beam of light that creates it. As a painter I’ve chased those moments to share through my work, creating paintings that are brought to life by fluid movement through the play of light and vivid detail..”
