INTERVIEW: Todd Bezold | Ogunquit Art Association (OAA) Showcase Artist - Barn Gallery

Todd Bezold is an Ogunquit Art Association member-artist (Painting) and one of our 6 Showcase Artists at Barn Gallery for the 2022 Season.

Bezold’s Showcase at Barn Gallery will run from June 29 – July 31, 2022 with an Opening Reception on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 (from 4PM – 7:30PM) and a Gallery Talk on Thursday, July 14, 2022 (at 6PM).

Continue reading below for some excerpts from a discussion we had with Todd Bezold about his background and work.

How long have you been a part of the Ogunquit Art Assocation?
I have been with the OAA for about 10 years. I was juried in by Beverly Hallam, DeWitt Hardy and Norman West.

Describe your art and art practice.
Through my youth drawing was a passion. My mother waited in the car for hours while I studied art at the Baker Hunt Foundation in Covington KY and when in high school she patiently stayed in Eden Park as studied life drawing at the Art Academy of Cincinnati. I obtained a Fine Arts degree at the University of Kentucky focusing on metal life size figurative pieces. Sculpture takes a great amount of space so now I focus time on painting abstracted forms of the landscape. At times the abstraction is apparent with immediate applications of paint, other times I work and rework the painting.

What is the theme – Title – of the body of work will you be exhibiting in your showcase?
The primary focus is the landscape, real or imaginary.

What materials and sizes and processes are you using?
I work in oil ten inch square to four by three feet.

What ideas are you expressing in the body of work you will be exhibiting?
Color composition is the main focus. I pick subjects that have a pattern and emphasize the form through blocking color or contour line.

What is the take away idea from your exhibition?
The joy of painting.
