Artist Statement
I paint outside, on site, in oils and watercolor. The gestures of the land, not the fine detail, interest me. Painting for me is a process of selection and simplification, a reduction to essentials. On the Isle of Skye, Scotland, I found the perfect catalyst for how I enjoy painting. The island landscape made me a better painter. I return every year to its vast vistas where theatrical light and moving mist continually redefine the structure of the land and where Nature remains my teacher.
